The month of March found us very busy. We have learned almost everything you could possiblely need to know about seeds, plants, planting, growing and being good stewards of our environment. Not to mention measuring everything in sight with non-standard units of measure. Mr. Crotty planted in the Kinder"garden" with us. Our class with Mrs. Morales' class planted radishes and onions. We "checked" them Friday and have good growth on our onions and little green sprouts for the radishes. The planting was quite an experience as the maintenance crew has built planter boxes for each grade level, then Mr. Crotty had us measure with real instruments and tools to make a 12"x12" square garden. It required nails, measuring tape, pencil, "a seed hole maker", string, and a water hose also! The squeals and applause for Mr. Crotty was outstanding. What a thrill for us all to see him in the teaching element. The greatest fun was when he pretended to water the students!
On March 31st we had a super bowl size thrill...Iden's uncle Tony came to speak to our 3-5th graders the importance of school, doing your best and listening to "your simons". Making good decisions and not following the crowd. Then he came to our classroom for a little one on one with the kids! Of course they had a lot of football related questions for him. He even checked out our football the guys play with at recess and gave his approval! (What a relief) We all think he is so COOL! He even had to stand in the doorway so we could see that someone can be more than 100 unifix cubes tall! (He went way past 100) He said his exact height is 6'5". We all said, "WHOA!"
#66 Pittsburgh Steelers known to us as "UNCLE TONY"
